PET flakes from Iran: how the lots are graded

PET flakes are sold by type and by cleanliness. The type tells you the bottle stream and the washing: hot-washed clear flakes come from clear water and soft-drink bottles washed in hot caustic water, while cold-washed, light-blue, green and mixed-colour flakes cost less and go mainly into staple fibre, filling fibre and carpet. Cleanliness is measured in ppm, and PVC is the figure buyers check first.

Choose by colour

• Clear: the highest value, for filament yarn, strapping, sheet and rPET pellets.
• Light blue: from mineral-water bottles, used in staple fibre and coloured strapping.
• Green: staple fibre for carpet and geotextile, and strapping.
• Mixed colour: the most economical, for carpet backing, filling fibre and non-woven.

What buyers test

PVC, polyolefins (PE and PP from caps and rings), glue, labels, metal, moisture and flake size. PVC matters most: it breaks down at PET processing temperature and causes black specks, yellowing and filament breaks. Hot-washed clear flakes usually trade at 100–200 ppm PVC or lower; cold-washed and coloured lots are higher.

No datasheet, figures per lot

Because every lot depends on its bottles and its washing line, PET flakes have no single datasheet. The PVC, moisture, flake size and colour mix of each lot are confirmed in the offer, and photos and a sample can be sent before loading. Questions from buyers

Are the flakes food grade? No. They are supplied for non-food uses such as fibre, strapping and sheet; food-contact rPET needs a certified decontamination process.

How are they packed? In jumbo bags of about one tonne, shipped in 20′ / 40′ containers from Bandar Abbas or by truck.

Can they travel with other products? Yes, PET flakes can be loaded in one container with other Rabin Polymer products.
